Do you ever wish you could speed read?
I am a pretty fast reader, but when I pick up several books of interest at the same time I want to absorb every ounce of information as fast as possible. Wish I had paid more attention to that speed reader guy on Spaaaaace Coasters or whatever that show was called.
Any-who, I was at the library the other day with my girls taking in a live play, Cinderella and the Glass Slipper. While they watched I browse the shelves looking for something that might strike my interest. What I found was Ole Carlson’s Aspire: 3 Powerful Strategies for Creating More of What You Want, NOW. This book had to be brand new because the spine hadn’t even the slightest bend and the pages seemed very untouched. It was as if it was waiting for me. You see I have been looking for a ‘matter of fact’, smack you in the head type book that was more current then some of the other books I have read about The Law of Attraction. I love this book, so far, I am just beginning chapter 3. I put it down because so much stuff in this book really speaks to me, so much so I had to get out my notebook. I may even just return it to the library and go buy it so I can highlight points of interest.
Okay, moving on. Carlson has a quote in there from Maria Shriver when she was speaking at the California Woman’s Conference in October 2007.
“As long as I was trying to anticipate what you wanted from me, as long as I was trying to fulfill others people’s expectations, I was in a losing game, a game I had been playing since I was a kid. That’s what I want to focus on this morning…letting go of others people’s expectations of you so you can own your own life, write your own story, and live your own legacy”
So I will have to pick up her book Just Who Will You Be? next.
This spoke to me because for a very long time I have been living a life based on how I thought others wanted me to live, or thought I should. A stagnant life where I put myself on the back burner. Maybe hoping that someone else would take me off the stove and say “hey looky here, what a mighty fine pot we have here” (in a sweet southern accent, LOL) . Don’t get me wrong my life brings me great joy and satisfaction, however, I have been living for others instead of for myself. I have worked jobs only for money and never for the pure satisfaction of the work. Yes, I know that money is very necessary, but who ever said that your work should be an unhappy experience where you exchange grudgingly some action for compensation? I want to work in joy and happiness doing something I am passionate about. Passionate purpose.
Nevermind What Others Think
A long while back I was in a furniture store with family and a guy who worked there came up to me and said “oh I hear you are looking for a job”. This caught me completely off guard. He must have talked to someone who was with me (name witheld to protect the innocent, LOL). I told him where I used to work and he asked if I had a degree, “yes” I replied. Then he proceeded to take my number and said he would pass it along to some HR person he knew at some really big bank. After leaving the store I was angry, angry at myself for not saying “sorry you heard wrong, I am a Personal Growth and Development Coach @ my firm Dragonfly Business Center”. Even today when people who really know ask me what I do for a living and I tell them I am an entrepreneur, a Personal Growth/Development Coach, it seems as if they are still wondering “when is she going to get a ‘real’ job”. I hate to break it to you, this is my real job. You see waking up every morning and being able to decide how I want to live life, work vs play is rewarding to me, and I love that each day brings exciting new discoveries for helping others, increasing my business and growing my knowledge. My income may not be in the millions, yet, but it is growing in the right direction, besides I am great at what I do. Which is helping others have the life they want, living for themselves, writing their own story everyday, creating their own legacy and on their own terms and doing so in with passionate faith and inspired action. This is how I have chosen to live my life as well.
Go Forth With This Thought
In this life we have so many opportunities available to us if we would stop and take notice of what’s out there. Writing our own story and living our dream is a real option. Never settle for something you really don’t want because you feel as if you can’t have it your way. Life is what we make it, and all things are possible. Stop worrying about what you think others may think because chances are you are holding yourself back with your own false beliefs. Once you are happy with how you are living your life others will follow.
Live Your Bliss!
Create a Great Day
